Kashmir in grip of chilly wave, Pulwama shivers at -5.5°C

The minimal temperature in Kashmir remained under the freezing level as chilly situations persevered throughout the valley, officers stated on Friday (December 12, 2025).

Srinagar, the summer time capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of -3.6°C on Thursday (December 11, 2025) evening, down from the earlier evening’s -2.9°C, the officers stated.

They stated the evening temperature was 2.4° under the traditional for this time of the season.

Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded a low of -2.8°C, whereas the minimal in north Kashmir’s Kupwara settled at -3.6°C, and Kokernag in south Kashmir registered a low of -0.7°C.

Pahalgam, one of many base camps for the Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, recorded a low of -4.6°C, they stated.

The evening temperature on the well-known ski resort of Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, settled at a low of 0°C.

Pulwama, in south Kashmir, was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir at -5.5°C, whereas the neighbouring Shopian registered a low of -5°C, the officers stated.

The prevailing dry climate in Kashmir valley has led to a rise in illnesses like cough and customary chilly.

The medical doctors have suggested the folks, particularly the youngsters and aged, to take precautions and keep indoors.

The meteorological division has stated there’s a risk of very mild snowfall at remoted larger reaches of north and central Kashmir from December 13 to 17.

It stated whereas the climate is more likely to stay partly to typically cloudy on December 18 and 19, there’s a risk of sunshine rain/snow at scattered locations of the valley on December 20-21 when ‘Chillai Kalan’, the 40-day harshest winter interval units in.

Shallow to average fog is more likely to persist at many locations within the valley over the approaching days, the MeT workplace added.
