The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, on Sunday (November 23, 2025), claimed a stronger “indigenous presence” in 103 of the State’s 126 Meeting constituencies in comparison with half a decade in the past.

The celebration attributed this pattern to the delimitation train in 2023, and the “important progress” made in securing the political and land rights of the State’s indigenous communities underneath the management of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“…the current delimitation train reportedly ensured that greater than 103 Meeting constituencies would now replicate a stronger indigenous presence, an end result the celebration described as a serious step towards long-standing political safeguards,” the BJP stated in a press release.

The Chief Minister indicated that the Bengali Muslims are in a majority within the remaining 23 constituencies.

“The Congress celebration will contest 22 seats (within the 2023 Meeting elections). Miyas are the oxygen of Congress, and the celebration’s politics revolves round them,” he stated on the sidelines of an official occasion, naming 5 of those seats. ‘Miya’ is a pejorative time period utilized in Assam to check with Muslims with roots in present-day Bangladesh. The Chief Minister insisted that he would maintain pestering the “suspected Miyas” so long as he remained in workplace.

“The eviction drive will proceed whereas polygamy will likely be stopped,” he stated.

The BJP claimed that 1.5 lakh bighas of land belonging to the satras (Vaishnavite monasteries), forests, and tribal communities have been reclaimed by means of the eviction drive, which largely affected the Bengali Muslims.

Muslims are believed to be a potent electoral drive in 35 of Assam’s 126 Meeting seats. There have been 31 Muslim victors within the 2021 State polls, 16 of whom have been fielded by Congress and 15 by the All India United Democratic Entrance led by Maulana Badruddin Ajmal.

There was a story in Assam that Muslims will sometime take over a lot of the constituencies. Nonetheless, other than the controversial 1983 election in the course of the peak of the Assam Agitation, the variety of Muslim representatives within the Meeting has averaged 25.

The narrative picked up steam after 27 Muslims have been elected in 1978, which ‘nationalist’ teams discovered was alarmingly excessive in comparison with the 21 seats they received in 1972. It was one of many triggers of the Assam Agitation that started to affiliate “unlawful immigrants” with “Bangladeshis”, aka Muslims.
