The information, shared by the Ministry of Finance in reply to a query within the Rajya Sabha, exhibits that the federal government collected ₹511.8 crore as Tax Deducted at Supply (TDS) on crypto transactions in 2024-25. As the speed of Tax Collected at Supply (TCS) is 1% on each transaction, this implies the worth of complete transactions that yr stood at ₹51,180 crore.

Below the Finance Act 2022, the federal government had launched a provision within the Earnings Tax Act 1961, which has been retained within the Earnings Tax Act 2025, mandating a 1% TDS on any switch of Digital Digital Property (VDAs) or cryptocurrencies.

The federal government had collected TCS price ₹221.3 crore in 2022-23 and ₹362.7 crore in 2023-24, implying transactions price ₹22,130 crore and ₹36,270 crore have been performed in these two years, respectively.

The reply added that the Earnings Tax Division had performed survey actions in opposition to three crypto exchanges working in India and located non-compliance of the TDS provision price ₹39.8 crore and undisclosed revenue price ₹125.79 crore.

“Along with the above search and seizure operations below Part 132 and Survey actions below Part 133A of the Earnings Tax Act in opposition to numerous entities resulted within the detection of undisclosed revenue associated to VDA transactions amounting to ₹888.82 crore,” the reply added.
